My Personal Herbal Goal
May 5, 2026The Plant Path is your birthright.
I’ve said this before.
And every time I say it, someone thanks me.
So I’m saying it again. In case you are the one who needs to hear it.
Herbalism in all its forms is part of the cultural heritage of the human species.
Humans have been using plants as medicine for the body, mind and soul (think psychedelic plants) since before we were human
Seriously. The Shanidar burial in Iran shows us that Neanderthals were using medicinal plants 50,000 years ago. Some of them are the very same plants I use in clinic! (Yarrow & Cornflowers if you are curious.)
In fact, plants have taught us how to be human.
Anthropologist Terrence McKenna argued in the 90s that psychedelic mushrooms and other plants are what kicked the human brain into abstract language & spirituality. His theory was radical at the time, but is slowly and surely gaining credence as scientists take note of the benefits of psychedelics for human wellbeing. Personally, I think that it’s bigger than that. Medicinal and psychedelic plants have taught us most of what we know about being in relationship with life.
If you feel the plants calling, go for it.
Plant medicine in all its forms is having a major comeback. Many cool people are all over instagram doing cool plant things. Maybe it feels like you can’t? But you don’t need special permission to find your own expression of the plant path.
Are you human? If so, that’s all the permission you need.
So go on, start that homemade herbal products business.
Enrol to study a herb course that excites you so you can one day be a herbalist.
Start running animist plant connection groups.
Go to Mexico and apprentice to a mushroom healer for 5 years.
